The Making Of
PLASTIC is a life action film that uses extensive photo-realistic visual effects and 3d animation. “We aimed to integrate the technology so the visual effects are seamless and supportive of the story and character’s journey. We wanted the audience to stay connected to the story and the character rather than be impressed by overly dominant visual effects. ”
“However, we recognize that without the technology used the story and message of PLASTIC would have never been achievable or feasible.
The film was entirely shot and finished on HD. Hard work and painstaking precision was required to accomplish the VFX in full resolution HD.
The software used was Alias Maya and Pixologic’s Z-Brush for the 3D modeling and animation, Apple Shake for tracking and compositing and Boujou Bullet for additional 3D tracking. Further applications used were Adobe Photoshop and After Effects.
Shane Rolton, founder of WYSIWYG 3D and Ben Tam from Qubic generously sponsored the production by doing a full 3D body scan of the main actress. This way Widyanata and Wise catered for the possibility to replace shots with 3D elements in case the 2D warping effect didn’t work out.
As a student project the film was made for virtually nothing and relied on the generosity of sponsors and volunteers. -Thank you to all who have been involved!
